Katie Couric is the 22nd recipient of the Al Neuharth Award for Excellence in the Media
During the three preceding years, Couric reported on and anchored newscasts covering some of the biggest domestic and international stories, including the historic 2008 presidential election. When "The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" debuted on Sept. 5, 2006, Couric became the first female solo anchor of a weekday network evening news broadcast.
